Chelmsford City Racecourse is one of the UK’s newest and most modern horse racing venues, located near Chelmsford in Essex. Opened in 2015, it features an all-weather Polytrack surface, allowing it to host high-quality races throughout the year. Facts about Chelmsford
First Opened in 2008 (as Great Leighs) – The racecourse originally opened as Great Leighs but closed shortly after due to financial difficulties. It was later revamped and reopened in 2015 as Chelmsford City Racecourse.
One of Only a Few All-Weather Tracks in the UK – It features a Polytrack surface, making it one of the few UK racecourses that can host races in all seasons.
Hosts Regular Evening Racing – The racecourse is particularly known for its floodlit evening racing, which creates an exciting and unique atmosphere.
Includes a Turf Track – In addition to the all-weather track, a new turf track was introduced in 2019, allowing for more variety in race events.
